I Miss Jonalyn and Our Weekly Movie Discussions posted on 30 May 2013 in Arts and Entertainment Jonalyn and I used to talk about romantic comedies movies back when I was still working at the same company she does. It was one of the many things we have had in common. Ever weekend we would spend hours downloading romantic comedies movies via torrent, watch them and then exchange notes on the following week. She was a huge fan of ryan reynolds like me and I think both of us have seen all of his movies. She told me that her absolute favorite movie with Ryan in it is The Proposal which also stars Sandra Bullock. As for me I told her my favorite is Chaos Theory, the movie is not popular at all but I fell in love with the storyline as well as the soundtrack. It was from this movie where I discovered the band called The Damnwells, several of their songs were used in the movie. I have downloaded all of their albums and I two of my most favorite songs are entitled, Golden Days and Tonight and Forever.

I've been victimized by free riders ever since I can remember and every time someone does this to me, I end up being clueless. So it all happened one day when I worked with this good looking guy who didn't have intelligence at all. I told him to send in my email the part that he was going to do for the project. A day later, he told me he had a problem with ntl email. I told him I'll still wait for it. A day before the deadline, I asked him where was his part was and he didn't give me any. If there's one thing I've learned lately, don't include someone's name in a project if he hasn't done anything to help you. So, on the day of the deadline, I told the teacher about it and he was given a big F on the class record.

They are often surprised when instead of reeling off a list of faddy diets and intense gym routines I simply say "I don't smoke, I avoid the midday sun and I moderate everything else!" Let's break this down. We've known for a long time that the single best thing you can do to stay healthy is to avoid smoking. Simple statistics. So I don't smoke. Smokers are in a tiny minority where I live and work so that's easy for me. I have friends who picked up the habit years ago - some have since quit, some haven't - "yet". Who knows if they ever will? So that's dealt with. Now what about everything else? I stay out of the midday sun (ok, 11am-2pm) because I have fair skin and don't want skin cancer, or come to that, to look like I have the skin of an elephant when I am 50 (even though I am male!) Now onto diet. A "diet" used to simply mean "things I eat" - now it seems to mean "a really, really special thing describing what I am not eating at the moment". All my adult life I have been the correct weight (175 pounds) for my height - not too fat, not too thin. But at one point I was on medication and went up to 210 pounds in a matter of a few months - it just increased my appetite for junk so I ate it. The medication fixed a problem I had but created a new one - being overweight. So what did I do? I found out a bit about weight loss. I had never in all my forty years deliberately tried to lose weight, so this was all new to me. I read that it was best to lose weight slowly. I read that restricting calorie intake in the first place was more effective than trying to get rid of excess calories by exercising afterwards. I knew I didn't have the patience for all the trouble of going to a gym to work out, showering and so on afterwards so I decided against it. I just gave up soda and candy and other processed junk and instead I bought a whole lot of fruit - bananas, apples, oranges, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple. You name it. When I wanted a soda or candy I had fruit instead. It only took three days for me to adapt and stop craving that other stuff. I also decided to eat my meals slowly, because I had read that there is a delay between the stomach getting full and the message getting through to the brain. I bought a medium sized plate instead of a big one. That limited how much food fitted onto it. I did some reading about restaurants. Why do they try to sell bigger portions? Because the cost of the raw ingredients is only a small part of the overall costs of running a restaurant - staff wages, utility charges, rents and so on. The cost of providing a bigger meal is very small compared to the extra profit. All these things started adding up in my mind. Did I do any exercise? No. Sometimes I walked a bit, or I ran around with my kids and that is all. Don't get me wrong, I have friends who exercise and that's great for them, I just don't do it myself. I lost on average two pounds a month. It might not sound like much but over a year that was 24 pounds. Then I lost another eleven pounds in the following six months. So now I am back down to my usual weight. No big deal. I simply found out about the subject, made a plan and stuck to it, not expecting to see overnight results. It really was that simple. You know diets are funny things. I knew a woman who was always going on and coming off diets. I remember once she said "I am starting a diet on Monday so I have to use up this stuff first" Can you believe it?! Eating everything before trying to lose weight! My love for it began after I read the story of Oliver James. Mine was a very vivid mind and on reading the story of this boy I was transferred to the times that he lived in. I never had many friends so I adopted the ones that Oliver James had in the book. I would rush through the London streets with him as he escaped the police and as I read the book I would see myself in the mischief that he got into. When I attended other classes apart from literature I would stare all though thinking when would be the next time that I would be in the world of Oliver James. Back them it was all good and not like today. I would be bored through school but I could switch a button in my brain and immediately I would be in any world that I wanted. I had many story books apart from the one on Oliver James so the journeys that I could go to were many and there were interesting. Literature became my best performed class because I could closely relate to expressions in every word.

About My Trip to the Sunny Miami South Beach posted on 3 March 2013 in Holiday and Travel Last month, my wife and I went to Miami, Florida. The trip was planned for two weeks and I can honestly say that it was totally awesome. We went landed at the Fort Lauderdale Airport and decided to stay there for a couple of days before heading south to Miami Beach. We stayed at the Yankee Clipper hotel which is now renamed Sheraton beach. We had a blast and the best part was the crab restaurant in the outskirts of the town. After our short stay in Fort Lauderdale, we rented a car and took the A1A Beach avenue down to Miami Beach. The road was not busy and we had the chance to enjoy it without getting stuck in traffic. When we arrived in Miami, we left our bags in the hotel and went to the beach right away. We love swimming in the ocean and pretty much spend the rest of the day in the water. After that really awesome time, we headed back to the hotel, took a shower, changed and went to the Nikki Beach night club. The rest of the holiday was basically the same story: beach and ocean in the morning, delicious dinner and a loud club in the evening. Probably one of the best holidays in my life. I was not very happy when it was time to go back but at the same time, I was extremely satisfied with my time in Miami South Beach. Later this year we're heading off to the UK for an altogether different kind of holiday - renting a holiday cottage in the Peak District - I can't wait!
